Tyler Young (Girl Tyler) is a former morning news producer-turned-filmmaker born and raised in Greenville, SC. With a cinematic language rooted in Southern heritage, Tyler weaves fantastical elements into genre-blending narratives to explore fractured multi-generational bonds. In 2024, Tyler wrote and directed her debut short, the award-winning dark comedy, Dying Laughing. Her third short, Emergency Contact, made its East Coast premiere at the 2026 Oscar-qualifying New York International Children’s Film Festival. Tyler is currently in post-production for her historical Southern Gothic short film, Porcelain Shadows. She is a freelance producer and documentary researcher. Tyler produced the 2024 NAACP Image Award-nominated short film presented by Queen Latifah’s Queen Collective program. Tyler earned her B.A. in Mass Communication at Winthrop University and is an alumna of Film Independent’s Project Involve writing track.
